Golfing in Los Cabos

Within the last five years the Los Cabos area has exploded with signature golf courses by the likes of Nicklaus, Weiskopf, Fazio and Robert Trent Jones II. All courses have spectacular vistas of the mountains and the sea. Regardless of the course played, you will be amazed by the beauty of the natural environment. Las Mañanitas will be glad to reserve golf tee times for you. All courses can accommodate groups of players if arranged in advance. In addition, they will develop golf clinics for individuals and groups. There are also twilight playing times for reduced rates. Twilight play begins mid-afternoon but you need to check because times change according to the available hours of daylight. All the golf courses have competitive fees. Quoted rates may or may not include 10% I.V.A. tax. Tee time reservations must be requested seven (7) days in advance or less. Some courses will reserve tee times more than eight (8) days in advance with a $20 USD fee (check policy at each course). Normally, one round of golf includes a cart, bottled water in an ice chest and practice facilities. Let us know on the reservations form if you would like to golf on your vacation.

Palmilla

The superb 27 hole golf course was designed by Jack Nicklaus. It is the first Mexican signature course by the "Bear" who as the winner of 20 major golf championships and the designer of nearly 80 courses around the world. The course consists of three sets of returning 9 holes with five tees per hole. The result is a championship golf course that fits all levels of play. A mountain course, a desert course and an ocean course make it like playing Pebble Beach, Palm Springs and Hawaii, all in one day.

Instead of long fairways, the course has a set of tee boxes and landing pads, much like Palm Springs. It's worth a game just to play the mountain 5th hole, a par 4 stretching 440 yards. The tee shot calls for a long drive over two cactus filled arroyos (dry river beds) to reach the green in two.

The Mayan Palace Golf Los Cabos Course

This one offers players at all levels some of the most interesting golf in Los Cabos, though not of the world class caliber of the other courses, the course maintains competitive and affordable prices. The nine hole 3,141 yards course was origianlly built by the Mexican government's FONATUR development agency, and was sold to The Mayan Palace Beach & Golf Reosrts Group in April 2004. Designed for intermediate and beginning golfers, this is a great course for the entire family to play in a pleasant atmosphere surrounded by well landscaped residential properties featuring an abundance of multi-hued bougainvilleas. From the first tee you are greeted by a panoramic view of the Sea of Cortez and the cape that comprises San Jose del Cabo.

Cabo del Sol

Cabo del Sol is a 1,800 acre planned resort community that will ultimately include three designed courses with two spectacular courses already completed. According to Jack Nicklaus, it's the best golf property he has ever seen. His Signature Ocean Course, highly ranked by Golf Magazine, is spread over two miles of beach front with six challenging holes. It includes the 17th and the 18th finishing holes, which are strategically and visually similar to the 16th and 17th at Cypress Point. Nicklaus states that the Cabo courses have " the best finishing holes in golf." Soon to be completed is Cabo del Sol's newest addition, the Tom Weiskopf Desert Course.

Cabo Real

The first completed course and home of the 1996 Senior Slam, (which some say put Cabo of the golf map) was carefully designed by Robert Trent Jones II. Mr. Jones' playground features a nine hole par 36 course spread over 3,539 yards and a second 9 with a 37 par over 3,623 yards. Incidentally, hole 5 and 6 are right on the ocean and hole 8 offers golfers a wonderful mountain-top view of the Sea of Cortez.

Cabo San Lucas Country Club

This Dye Corporation designed course takes advantage of the terrain's natural slope, so it is easy to walk. Unlike other courses, the property is mainly sand and loam - not carved out of granite that is millions of years old. Dye was quoted as saying, "this course is a very pleasant place to play because it ranges from a very short course to a challenging course with enough hazards, obstacles and bunkers to make it interesting." Certainly part of the appeal is the close proximity to Cabo San Lucas - with it's nightlife, holiday atmosphere, marina, and "let's party" ambiance. The course is the only one in Los Cabos with a view of Los Arcos.
