Fishing in Los Cabos

There is no doubt that fishing in the waters off Los Cabos is awe inspiring! You never know what trolling will bring up! There are four types of fishing in the Los Cabos area and if you have time, we encourage you to experience all of them; 1.) serious sport fishing on a charter boat 2.) fishing from a panga boat made memorable in Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea" (nowadays the pangas have powerful motors) 3.) the good ole fishin' in the surf, with or without tackle 4.) surf casting is great in the morning hours when it's only you and the fish. All four have qualities that all fishermen can appreciate because when it is all said and done, fishing is in every man's soul.

When planning your fishing excursion you will want to make reservations in advance, particularly in the "high" season. When making reservations it is important to ask whether the following are included in the overall price: bait, fishing equipment, 10% tax, tip, fishing license, lunch, beverages (water, soda, beer) and ice. Sometimes group rates can be negotiated. Although most charters operate out of Cabo San Lucas, you may want to ask whether there is a pick up service from Las Mañanitas in San Jose del Cabo. Below are two types of fishing boats: 1.) Pangas 2.) Sport Charters

Pangas

The most popular rentals are the 22 to 24 foot Pangas or Super Pangas and Cruisers in the 28 to 32 foot range. The fleets out of San Jose del Cabo specialize in open fiberglass pangas, equipped with powerful outboards and convertible Bimini tops for shade. They are very comfortable and seaworthy, able to make the run to the offshore fishing grounds quickly and capable of capturing the largest of marlin. The Gordo Banks panga fleet is ideally located in the fishing village of La Playita, which is the closest launching spot to the world famous Gordo Banks, only 10 miles to the east of San Jose del Cabo.

A day's fishing will find you leaving the beach shortly after sunrise and returning between 12:00pm -1:00pm. Price is approx. $175 per person for 1 to 4 fishermen, all equipment included. You should bring any food/drinks. Don't forget to tip your Captain. We can book your fishing reservations in advance. Simply request Panga fishing on the reservation form.

Sportfishing Charters

A day's fishing lasts approximately eight hours:
Departure Time: 6:30am - 7:00pm
Returning Time: 2:30pm - 3:00pm

Each boat is staffed with a Captain and a Deckhand. The cost includes top-of-the-line fishing gear and your fish will be cleaned.

Following is a list of some of the charter sportfishers. We have access to over 50 boats, so please book in advance and enjoy a very memorable experience fishing in the "Marlin Capital of the World."
